Statuario the promising three-year-old grey gelding trained by Emma-Lee and David Browne, based in Pakenham, Victoria. He is sired by D'Argento out of the mare Miss Entice, making him the first stakes winner for his sire. Bluegrass Bloodstock attended the Inglis Vobis Gold sale in 2023 with Matt Sellick of Toward Reward Thoroughbreds. After inspecting the catalogue, Bluegrass Bloodstocks highest rated yearling was a grey colt by D'Argento from the Bowness draft. Giving him to Matt Sellick as our no.1 pick Matt inspected the colt with Bluegrass and after having him vet checked Matt purchased him for $18,000, we valued him at over double his purchase price.
Statuario has shown significant potential since starting racing career. He secured a notable victory in the Listed Galilee Series Final over 2400 meters at Caulfield on April 5, 2025, winning by 2.25 lengths . This performance established him as a leading contender for the Group 1 South Australian Derby.
In the South Australian Derby held on May 3, 2025, at Morphettville, Statuario started as the $3.40 favorite and finished a commendable second to the filly Femminile over 2500 meters . Statuario was the run of the race, he showed his customery turn of foot in the run, he has now been set for the Queensland Derby in June 2025.
Throughout his career, Statuario has amassed over $434,000 in prize money so far and has demonstrated consistent form in various stakes races, including a third-place finish in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes and a second in the Listed TAB Trophy . He is a great advertisment for Toward Reward Thoroughbreds and connections and his trainers David and Emma-lee Browne have done an amazing job with him.
